Hi Robert,

Congratulations on having such a successful year, and for all of the upcoming stories about to be published.

I enjoy writing Hint Fiction pieces, and I'm thrilled to be included in the anthology. Thanks for all the work you've put into it. I know it's only January, but I can't wait for November already! I look forward to reading all the stories.

I read and listened to many books this year, but the one that stood out for me was an older book, The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, which I thought was outstanding. It's a true crime story about a serial killer at the time of the World's Fair in Chicago in the late 1800s - he was a doctor.

I just read on Twitter about poor Ralphie. My condolences to you and your wife for the loss of your dear pet. I'm sorry your new year is off to a tough start, but I know better days are ahead. May your fond memories of Ralphie help you through this difficult time.

Wishing you all the best in 2010.

Jess -- you know, I have a lot of John Irving books but have never actually read him. But I really enjoyed the movies THE CIDER HOUSE RULES and THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR. Both were great.

Yes I still read your blog. Thanks for getting around to my question. Good explanation.

I got my daughter Under the Dome for Christmas and John Irving's Last Night in Twisted River. She just finished reading her 60th book. Years ago I bought her a book journal so she's always recorded her reads. It's a habit now. :)

Happy New Year, Robert. I look forward to reading your 2010 blogposts.

Linda -- I’m not familiar with the Peter Selgin book but will have to look it up. The Chaon book is one I’m really looking forward to. Happy near year :-)

Charles -- I’m pretty much everywhere. That’s me, a social butterfly.

Madeline -- I’ve heard good things about HUNGER GAMES. The other two I’m not familiar with but will have to check them out. Thanks!

I'm glad I'm not the only who keeps tracks of books read - I haven't counted mine up yet for 2009. I try to read out of my comfort zone now and then, and one of the best nonfiction books was COLUMBINE by Dave Cullen. Blew me away.

I really enjoyed UTD, plus I got to see King on tour so that was a nice bonus.

A favorite? Can't pick one but my top two are HUNGER GAMES and CATCHING FIRE both by Suzanne Collins. Excellent reads.

And thanks to you, Robert, for running that Hint Fiction contest in the first place. I entered it as a challenge to myself, made it into the top twenty and will now be in the anthology. It's been a good year... :)

UNDER THE DOME is up for the New Year, along with a second valient attempt at GRAVITY's RAINBOW. Peter out or not, I love all things King and UTD will be my naught luxury this winter.

Best book last year... so darn many. A toss-up between Peter Selgin's LIFE GOES TO THE MOVIES and Dan Chaon's AWAIT YOUR REPLY. Both just super.

Happy New Year! I've enjoyed your meanderings muchly. Peace, Linda

Barry -- I find Big Jim quite loathsome too. Hope he dies in a creative way. And I've been meaning to pick up HOUSE OF LEAVES. I have Danielewski's ONLY REVOLUTIONS floating around here some place.

Oh, and favorite book I read this year was, "House of Leaves." Yeah, I know it's a few years old but this book freaked me right the hell out.
